Health and Safety policy
Movers Queens Park Health and Safety Policy
Movers Queens Park is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, subcontractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety in connection with domestic and commercial removals, packing, loading, unloading, transportation and short-term handling or storage of goods.
Our aim is to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health and to continuously improve our health and safety performance across all services and locations where we operate.
Legal Compliance and Responsibilities
Movers Queens Park will comply with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations and approved codes of practice relevant to removal and transportation activities. We will monitor changes in legal requirements and update our procedures as necessary.
Overall responsibility for health and safety within Movers Queens Park rests with senior management, who will ensure that adequate resources, information and support are made available to implement this policy effectively.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for promoting safe working practices on site and during every move, carrying out and implementing risk assessments, and ensuring staff follow established procedures.
All employees and subcontractors have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. They must cooperate fully with the company in the implementation of this policy and report hazards, near misses, incidents and unsafe conditions without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Movers Queens Park will identify, assess and manage the risks associated with removal and transportation work, including lifting and carrying, use of vehicles, working in and around customers premises and handling heavy or awkward items. Formal risk assessments and, where appropriate, method statements will be prepared for typical and non-standard tasks.
Safe systems of work will be developed and implemented for key activities, including but not limited to lifting and handling, packing and unpacking, loading and unloading vehicles, driving and parking, working on stairs and confined spaces, and working in shared access areas. These procedures will be communicated to staff and reviewed regularly.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling represents a significant risk in the removals industry. Movers Queens Park will minimise manual handling risks by planning each job carefully, using mechanical aids where reasonably practicable and allocating sufficient personnel for heavy or bulky items.
All staff engaged in lifting and carrying will receive appropriate manual handling training and instruction. They must follow safe lifting techniques and avoid attempting to handle loads beyond their capability.
We will provide and maintain suitable handling equipment, such as sack trucks, dollies, straps and protective coverings. Equipment will be inspected regularly, and any defective items will be taken out of service and replaced or repaired promptly.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Movers Queens Park will maintain all vehicles used for removals in a roadworthy, safe and clean condition, following recommended service intervals and carrying out pre-use checks. Loads will be secured properly to prevent movement during transit and to protect both staff and customers property.
Drivers will hold the appropriate licences, receive guidance on safe driving practices and comply with road traffic laws and company rules. Speed limits, parking regulations and restrictions near residential and commercial properties will always be respected. Drivers must not operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that may impair their ability to drive safely.
Training, Information and Supervision
Movers Queens Park recognises that competent, well-informed staff are essential to maintaining a safe working environment. We will provide all employees with induction training covering company health and safety rules, emergency procedures and basic risk awareness.
Role-specific training will be provided for tasks such as manual handling, use of handling aids, vehicle operation and working safely at customers premises. Refresher training will be arranged as required to ensure standards are maintained.
Supervisors will monitor work on site and during moves to ensure procedures are followed, workloads are reasonable and staff understand how to perform tasks safely. Where new equipment or methods are introduced, additional training and clear instructions will be provided.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where risks cannot be fully controlled by other means, Movers Queens Park will provide suitable personal protective equipment, such as safety footwear, gloves, high-visibility clothing or other items appropriate to the task. Employees are required to use this equipment as instructed and to keep it in good condition. Damaged or worn items will be replaced promptly.
Customer and Public Safety
During removal operations at customers homes or business premises, Movers Queens Park will take reasonable steps to protect customers, visitors and members of the public from harm. This includes maintaining clear walkways, using warning signs or barriers where necessary, managing vehicle movements safely and minimising noise and disruption.
We will treat customers property with care and respect, ensuring that our working methods do not create unnecessary hazards such as trip risks, unstable stacks of items or blocked fire exits.
Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported to the appropriate manager as soon as possible. Movers Queens Park will investigate such events to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Emergency procedures will be in place for dealing with incidents such as fire, serious injury, vehicle collisions and hazardous situations at customers premises. Staff will be made aware of these procedures and their responsibilities in an emergency, including contacting emergency services where required.
Consultation, Communication and Continuous Improvement
Movers Queens Park is committed to consulting with employees on health and safety matters, encouraging them to raise concerns and suggest improvements. Information about risks, procedures and changes in working practices will be communicated clearly and in good time.
This policy and associated procedures will be reviewed regularly and after any significant change in operations or after serious incidents. Lessons learned from experience, staff feedback and changes in legislation will be used to improve our health and safety management system.
Policy Review and Approval
This Health and Safety Policy reflects the current arrangements at Movers Queens Park and is approved by senior management. It will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains relevant, effective and appropriate to the scale and nature of our removal activities and service areas.
